“You’re crazy!” is one of the things a dedicated and highly motivated athlete most often hears from others. One of the most difficult questions you could ask an athlete is why they train day in and day out. How, when their alarm clock goes off at 4 am on a Monday, and the sun is still hours away from showing itself, they can still get up and train. The athletic fire in their soul keeps them warm on those dark and cold mornings. They mount their bike, lace up their sneakers, or jump in the pool, or like with some of our ambassadors, the cold ocean . Choosing the lifestyle of an athlete sends you into a fast-paced arduous world of calculated splits, laps, and reps in the gym. Through sweat, tears and failure an athlete perseveres. “Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you” — Orebela Gbenga. Talent will only take you so far, but the desire that drives the person who gets up and shuts off the alarm clock is what takes you further. Stay disciplined, create habit, and generate results. It doesn’t happen overnight. Soon discipline becomes habit, then desire, then something that is as required a routine as flossing.
